This event finished in the Autumn of 2024. Please read Tricia's review below.
On Saturday 26 October from 10.30am to 1.00pm in Great Alne and Kinwarton Memorial Hall, Henley Road, Great Alne, B49 6HL we will hold our final Fun and Chat event. It would be lovely to see anyone who has come along to Fun & Chat over the years to enjoy this event, but new people are also welcome.
This one-off event will be a celebration of Fun & Chat over the years. So, celebration will be the theme. There will be lots of different activities most of which have been enjoyed during the years. As always there will be cakes and refreshments available all morning and for lunch there will be party food, including quiche and salad, sausage rolls, picnic sausages etc.
Fun & Chat started on Saturday 10 September 2016 as ‘A Morning of Fun and Chat’. The wish was to bring church and village together in a social setting. Later it became a Minster-wide event, open to all members of the Minster communities for adults as well as families. Membership of a church is not required ‘guests and friends’ are very welcome. A place to meet up with others. Stay a while and enjoy a drink and a cake or stay all morning and partake in the lunch.
The Fun & Chat team would like to thank everyone who has supported this event through the years. Your participation has been most welcome. We are sad to draw this activity to a close.
Sadly, the final Fun & Chat was be held in the Great Alne and Kinwarton Memorial Hall on Saturday 26 October, between 10.30 am – 1.00 pm.
The theme was Celebration. We celebrated the last eight years of Fun & Chat. The focus of the morning was looking back over the tenure of Fun & Chat. The crafts and activities through the morning were many and varied recalling many of the crafts enjoyed at different previous events.
The Listening Time, a short period focusing on scripture was shared with everyone. In October six previous stories from the different years were recalled. Each story was introduced with an object drawn from a bag. The stories included...
• Noah’s Ark. We all have the opportunity to ‘start over’.
• Jesus our superhero. Focusing on Jesus’ miracle of walking on the water.
• God’s love. “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. for
all of us.”
• Jesus choosing his disciples. Who were just ‘ordinary’ people.
• The lost sheep. God cares for each one of us.
• The fruit of the Spirit. This was the most recent scripture used in the
listening time.
There were, as usual, refreshments including cakes available all morning and there was also a free lunch of celebration food including quiche, salads, sausage rolls, cocktail sausages followed by either trifle or cheesecake.
Fun & Chat, although set up by the parish of Kinwarton with Great Alne, was a Minster event, open to all members of the Minster communities for adults as well as families. Membership of a church was not required. Guests and friends were welcome. It was a place to meet up with others.
The team was Emma Berry who organised and led the session, Tina Bennett who provided some of the food as well as many of the activities, Matt Berry who particularly enjoyed interacting with many of the children and young people who attended and finally Tricia Berry who generally retreated to the kitchen. But especially in the early days there were many who were involved and provided cakes etc. We would like to thank them for their support and those faithful people who came along regularly. With the odd exception especially through Covid, the event was held at the Memorial Hall five times each year in Spring, Easter, Summer, Autumn and prior to Christmas. We would also like to thank the Memorial Hall for their support and willingness to allow us to host this initiative.
We wish to thank all who attended throughout the years and wish everyone God’s blessings, now and in the future.
